Main Objective

The objective of the project is to provide natural gas Local Distribution Companies (LDCs) with best practices and guidelines for the retrofitting of inside gas service regulators and associated piping to maintain the same level of safety as a regulator installed outside. Project includes establishment of best practices for the inspection, recording, and maintenance of gas regulators and utility owned indoor piping systems.

Public Abstract

Work with the Local Distribution Companies (LDCs), participating Technical Advisory Panel (TAP) members, regulator manufacturers, and industry subject-matter experts to: (a) Evaluate existing industry standards and practices for the installation and maintenance of inside regulators and piping systems, (b) Recommend technologies and procedures for retrofitting regulators to address venting gas and improve their safety in confined spaces, (c) Provide a decision making approach to identify regulator and piping assemblies which require replacement and those where remediation actions would provide similar level of safety to outdoor installations, (d) Disseminate the findings in an industry workshop to provide the scientific support and implementation procedures.
