Main Objective
Under this grant award City of Preston will meet the expected outcomes listed below.
Public Abstract
Under the terms of this agreement, the Recipient must demonstrate completion of the work through the actions it has specified in its Application.
- Create a comprehensive GIS-driven risk assessment and asset management system. GPS points will be gathered to identify city utilities near the pipeline and in the evacuation area.
- Purchase a Trimble mapping-grade GPS unit to gather the data and to use continuously to keep the maps up-to date.
- Coordinate with pipeline operators to determine pipeline locations and share information on city utility systems.
- Provide training for city staff regarding GPS data collection, using and updating GIS maps and safety policies for hazardous pipelines.
- Prepare an emergency evacuation zone map and hazardous pipeline evacuation area map.
- Conduct educational outreach in the community including updates to the city website, mailers/fliers and coordination with school district officials, emergency response personnel and city staff. The message will emphasize the "811 Call Before You Dig" program.
