Main Objective

Under this grant agreement, Georgia Public Service Commission will maintain and provide resources to a full time field investigator. This employee's job duties include investigating damages and offering recommendations of settlement (up to and including the assessment of civil penalties) for violations of the the state's damage prevention laws. In addition to performing investigative work, this position has also been instrumental by presenting the damage prevention practices and procedures to industry groups and stakeholders across Georgia. This is accomplished by speaking to many groups both of excavators and facility owner/operators. Funds from the 2015 grant will allow the Commission to continue the employment of this person.

Public Abstract

Under the terms of this grant agreement, the Recipient will address the following elements listed in the approved application as stated in 49 U.S.C. §60134 (b). * Element 7 (ENFORCEMENT): Enforcement of State damage prevention laws and regulations for all aspects of the damage prevention process, including public education, and the use of civil penalties for violations assessable by the appropriate State authority.
