Main Objective
This research identified the factors that cause pipeline failures, and the factors that effect accidents on hazardous liquid pipelines.
Public Abstract
This research identified the factors that cause pipeline failures, and the factors that effect accidents on hazardouws liquid pipelines. Since normalizing the data was not possible, the authors of this report used indirect and inferential approaches in the analysis. The databases used for this analysis were LIQUID (accident data for 1968-1985) and LIQLCK (accident data for 1985-present).
The main finding was that better and more complete data on hazardous liquid accidents should be collected. Other conclusions are that prevention programs are not sufficiently effective. Lastly the report concluded that pipe components such as valves, o-rings, gaskets, and nipples are a significant source of potentially reducible accidents.
