Main Objective

Under this grant award Greater Lafourche Port Commission will utilize Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) technology to investigate and document the condition of oil and gas pipelines in the bayous, canals, and wetlands of coastal Louisiana in the vicinity of Port Fourchon. Louisiana. The pipeline condition and location data found from the ROV in this project will then be communicated to the many mariners who travel in and out of the Port Fourchon area to reduce the risk of an incident. As part of this project, marine pipeline stakeholder groups which may be affected by coastal erosion, changing waterway and pipeline conditions will be identified and engaged with. The data will also be used to draft and disseminate new or updated pieces of communications collateral. such as brochures, web site, and fact sheets to share with these marine pipeline stakeholders.

Public Abstract

Under the terms of this agreement. the Recipient must demonstrate completion of the work through the actions it has specified in its Application.

  • Pipeline Inspection using ROV Capabilities
  • Innovative ROV inspections will he conducted in conjunction with selected volunteer pipeline partners with locations in various coastal water conditions. Phase 1 will be performance of inspections; Phase 2 will he report preparation. including sonar, video and cathodic protection data: Phase 3 will be publication of results over a six month period.
  • Marine Pipeline Stakeholder Identification and Engagement
  • A third party firm as well as Greater Lafourche Port Connnission staff will be utilifed to identify at-risk marine stakeholder groups operating in inland watenways and development of outreach materials and public awareness messages. Phase 1 is audience identification; Phase 2 is Materials Development and production; Phase 3 is materials distribution and stakeholder engagement.
