Main Objective

Under this grant award Athens Utility Board will increase community safety by reducing the risk of harm to both people and the environment through scientific and technical improvements. The equipment enhancements will improve and replace the outdated leak detection equipment currently used by Athens Utility Board's field crews and in turn. would provide faster, safer and more reliable leak detection. This will effectively aid in the recognition and response time to natural gas leaks, leak repairs. and may reduce the amount of emergency calls. This will improve the integrity of Athens Utilities Board's pipelines and increase Athens Utilities Board's pipeline safety.

Public Abstract

Under the terms of this agreement. the Recipient must demonstrate completion of the work through the actions it has specified in its Application.

  • Replace the older Anne ionization leak detection technology with laser leak detection technology to enhance Athens Utilities Board's (AUB's) pipeline safely aml help eliminate the risk of harm to the public, conumulity and environment.
  • Procure a total of 2 Remote Methane Leak Detectors at the cost (039,900.
  • Provide employee irciii,inu, an' then incorporate the new equipment into .field leak detection operations, with i/ic/it/I implementation scheduled during the first 12 months after being awarded the grant.
  • implementation will begin with product procurement during the first 3 months, followed by employee training of equipment uses and operation during months 3-6 and field implementation during months 6-12 to petform actual leak survey and detection with the RMLD leak detection equipment.
  • Complete a results effectiveness review qfter MI implantation fbr analyfing the completed process aml results for figure detection safety enhancements.
  • During the 6 to 12 months phase AUB will implement its education and outreach programs to provide public and community awareness of leak detection.
