Main Objective

Under this grant award Palatka Gas Authority will Implement a Geographic Information System (GIS) to aid with further increasing the knowledge of existing employees as well as educating new hires. Palatka Gas Authority will further invest in its GIS system by collecting GPS coordinates on all natural gas meters and further training employees on best practices to fully utilize GIS for increased safety and awareness.

Public Abstract

Under the terms of this agreement. the Recipient will demonstrate completion of the work through the actions it has specified in its Application.

  • Implement a Geographic Infimnation System t(LS) to aid will tfitrther increasing the knowledge of existing employees as well as educating new hire.
  • Collect more data to improve the GIS system for the gas distribution network.
  • Purchase GIS software tools and take appropriate steps for training and input of all system data that will enable it to improve the safety and integrity of the gas system and achieve its objectives in the following ways:
  • Public Awareness — determining trends via the GIS system to help maintain this program to ensure efficient and effective communication with appropriate stakeholders.
  • Damage Prevention — better and more accurate mapping information on the gas system, and increased accuracy in locating underground facilities.
  • Emergency Response — using modern technology and equipment to quickly shut off the flow of escaping gas in emergency situations.
  • System Management — using GIS capabilities to manage service outages, leak data, and corrosion control records.
  • Commence training on ArcGIS Editor and flowGIS software
  • Incorporate all customer data into the GIS. implement the Geometric Network, configure the risk-assessment modeling and program the delimit reports for operations.
  • Palatka personnel will be trained on how to use their GPS device and to enter all leak, installation and inspection data to meet the objectives above.
