Main Objective

Study of the Properties of the Numerous Odorants and Assessment of their Effectiveness in Various Environmental Conditions to Alert People to the Presence of Natural Gas.

Public Abstract

This study was of the (then) state-of-the-art in odorization technology.

Tertiary butyl mercaptan blends are preferred over other commerical odorants; positive-displacement chemical-pump odorizers are used most frequently and are the most highly regarded of the firve types of odorant-addition equipment. nearly all companies check odor levels with odorometers. Titrators are most often used for continuous monitoring of odorant concentrations.

The commercial odorants are satisfactory in overall effectiveness, but thier resistance to soil absorption needs improvment.
