In 2006, PHMSA and BP Pipelines conducted research into similar technologies to evaluate new aerial surveillance technologies and to detect earth-moving machinery on or near a pipeline ROW. Preliminary tests in 2007 have shown these technologies are a potential solution to improving ROW surveillance. Damage prevention is a critical concern to both PHMSA and the pipeline industry. Since these preventive technologies can be utilized by the entire industry, your participation in requirements gathering, research and testing will ensure a viable solution is developed which meets industry requirements.
