Main Objective
Subsequent to the completion of these four projects:
#153H: Corrosion Assessment Guidance for Higher Strength Pipelines
#153K: Behavior of Corroded Pipelines Under Cyclic Pressure
#153L: Assessment of Older Corroded Pipelines with Reduced Toughness and Ductility
#153J: Remaining Strength of Corroded Pipe Under Secondary (Biaxial) Loading
incorporate new rules and guidance for comprehensive assessment of corrosion damage in transmission pipelines into the applicable Guidance Document.
Public Abstract
The Pipeline Safety Research and Development program will: a) Improve an operator's ability to determine the severity of damage from localized corrosion and its effect on pipeline operating pressure margins; b) Develop comprehensive and consistent methods for assessing corrosion in the field; and c) Provide a sound basis for establishing corrosion re-assessment intervals for integrity management protocols.
