Main Objective

To develop an ICDA method applicable to pipelines transporting liquid petroleum products (e.g., crude oil, fuels) so that liquid pipeline operators can utilize DA for integrity verification.

Public Abstract

The goal of this project is to develop an ICDA method applicable to hazardous liquid pipelines (i.e., transporting liquid petroleum products such as crude oil and fuels). Present ICDA methods for gas pipelines are not applicable to liquid systems, so the integrity of liquid petroleum pipelines (for which the threat of internal corrosion exists) cannot presently be assessed using DA methods. ICDA for normally dry gas has resulted in a NACE recommended practice, and a wet gas ICDA recommended practice is underway. The proposed project is expected to result in a document that would serve as the 1st draft of a liquid petroleum ICDA NACE standard.
